Monika Milewska, PhD, historian and anthropologist, essayist, poet, playwright, translator. Graduated from the Warsaw University (PhD 2000), international Graduate School for Social Research, Warsaw (2000) and Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris (1996/1997). Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. Assistant professor at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw (2002-2008). Obtained several Polish and international scholarships (e.g. Mellon East-Central European Visiting Scholars Program, Italian Government Scholarship, French Government Scholarship, HESP Programs, IWM Program). Secretary of the Gdansk Branch of the Association of Polish Writers. Author of the book Vinegar and Tears. The French Revolution Terror as a Traumatic Experience (Gdańsk 2002), nominated to the most prestigious Polish book prize – Nike.

Her interests include anthropological aspects of the personality cult in different epochs, the sacralization of power and violence, and political myths and symbols.
